Photographing Maine

Maine Coast Photography

Cape Elizabeth, Maine - Two Lights

I’ve spent years photographing the coast of Maine. Recently I’ve even taken some video of a storm of fairly sizable proportions on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunkport. But my real passion has always been taking pictures of the harbors and the sailing vessels that are what sets the Maine coasts and harbors aparts from all others around the globe. My new COOLPIX P100 Nikon digital camera has given me some new inspirations in photography and videography. My very old, but reliable Bell & Howell FX35 35 mm SLR has been laid to rest, but I suppose in a pinch I could take it out of storage.

I’ve taken thousands of photos with it. (the photo on my main page of Buck’s Harbor was taken with this camera) Developing costs are so expensive compared to downloading high resolution photos to my iMac, I cannot justify the old method of taking the rolls of film to the camera shop or sending it off to Kodak to be done on their expensive paper. By using digital photography and printing my own on Kodak paper that runs nicely through my printer I can save a LOT of money on developing. I’m also able to crop my own photos now, color enhance when necessary for special effects and only process the best of the best. This also really cuts down on cost.
