The Maine Stay Inn and Cottages is our favorite Bed & Breakfast in Kennebunkport. It’s a short walk to Dock Square, the shops and restaurants in downtown Kennebunkport. The rooms we’ve stayed in have been spacious two room suites with fireplaces.
The bathrooms are a bit tight, but it’s hard to incorporate baths into a house from an era when closets were an afterthought and bathrooms non-existant. As a retired old house restoration carpenter I know the value of space in antique homes. They’ve done a great job fitting in one of the most important creature comforts a traveler desires. The beds were VERY comfortable and because we had a suite we had enough chairs and couches for a party. The suites are rooms you can stretch out in and feel like you’re at home and not cramped up in some barren hotel room. Beautiful architecture and period decor. Oh…the innkeepers (Judi and Walter) are a blast and their daughter Joanna (pronounced YO hanna) is a recent Dartmouth graduate. My wife and I worked at Dartmouth College many years ago and we have another relative who is a librarian there, so we had some fun talking about the school as well as a lot of other things.
One thing at the inn I’d never seen before was the new Keurig Brewers and the K-cups. It was very convenient at 5AM. The whole set up is awesome! Turn on the brewer (make sure there is water in there because it has a reservoir), pick your K-cup coffee, pop it in the Brewer, push a button and voila!! A pretty good cup of coffee and I ran a coffee shop for 6 yrs using organic fair trade coffee. You can get a good cup of coffee this way.
